The Black Forest
After long hours of walking, Alexa, Daniel, Jean, Maria and Joe arrived on the Black Forest meadow. Although tired, they were happy and full of energy. They rested for a while and then searched for blackberries in the meadow`s bushes. Seeing the flowers in the meadow, Maria and Alexa picked up a basket full of vividly coloured flowers, by searching through the thick grass and high in patches. The girls sang and joked, taking a look from time to time where the boys were. The five children often came to the Black Forest, playing or collecting mushrooms, strawberries or blackberries. This time, however, the five children were to have a special and unique experience.
The three boys found the bushes with blackberries and began to harvest. The girls also joined after filling the basket with flowers. There were many shrubs around the meadow. They knew them all, as they were here in the past. Now, after a good chunk of time, the baskets were almost full of raspberries. The children agreed to pick up a few more, then rest a little. They had enough time to play, before returning home. But here, reaching a new bush of blackberries, the children did not notice when a bear with two cubs approached from the forest.
They were coming slowly and quietly and only the sound of the broken wood by the bears' footsteps made Maria turn her head back.
She was so shocked and astonished, that she couldn't say a word.

Daniel, who has had a few meetings with bears in the past, started talking slowly, almost whispering to the other kids who were all scared.
They held hands and did exactly what Daniel had told them, walking back slowly, without making a noise. The bear and her cubs continue to approach the mulberry bush. Eventually, the children arrived at the place where their belongings were and, taking them slowly, they made their way to the village. The bears were still in the bush, eating mulberries.
When they were far enough from the bears, the children gave free rein to the emotions they had hardly managed to control. They shuddered, tears flowed from their eyes, leaned against trees or fell to the ground. They began to cry, tired of the intensity of the emotions still in their possession. After recovering a little, they resumed their journey back home, frightened by the idea of not having a new unwanted date. Daniel was the only one who was always in charge of the situation because he knew the forest and how to cope with wild animals. He was the forester’s son, and the forest and nature were like his second home.
